Amstrad CPC 664, Anglie, 1985. Druhý model řady CPC nahradil vestavěný kazetový magnetofon 3palcovou disketovou mechanikou. Používá Zilog Z80A na 4 MHz, 64 KB RAM a 48 KB ROM, z toho 32 KB tvoří firmware a Locomotive BASIC 1.1 a dalších 16 KB diskový ROM s AMSDOS. Obrazové režimy zůstaly stejné jako u CPC 464, tedy 160 × 200 v 16 barvách, 320 × 200 ve 4 barvách a 640 × 200 ve 2 barvách z palety 27 barev. Zvuk zajišťuje AY-3-8912 se třemi kanály. Vestavěná mechanika ukládá přibližně 178 KB dat na jednu stranu 3palcové diskety, připojit lze i druhou mechaniku a externí kazetový magnetofon. CPC 664 se prodával jen krátce v roce 1985, protože jej brzy nahradil CPC 6128.

Amstrad CPC 664, England, 1985. The second CPC model replaced the built in cassette recorder with an integrated 3 inch floppy drive. It uses a Zilog Z80A at 4 MHz, 64 KB RAM and 48 KB ROM, consisting of 32 KB for firmware and Locomotive BASIC 1.1 plus a 16 KB disk ROM with AMSDOS. Its display modes remain those of the CPC 464, with 160 × 200 in 16 colours, 320 × 200 in 4 colours and 640 × 200 in 2 colours from a 27 colour palette. Sound is provided by the three channel AY-3-8912. The built in drive stores about 178 KB of data per side, while a second drive and an external cassette recorder can also be connected. The CPC 664 had only a short market life in 1985 before the CPC 6128 replaced it.

Tento Amstrad CPC 664 jsem získal jako nefunkční. Příčinou byly dvě vadné mask ROM přímo na základní desce. Amstrad 40022 je 32KB systémová ROM, která obsahuje firmware počítače a Locomotive BASIC 1.1, zatímco Amstrad 40015 je samostatná 16KB disková ROM s AMSDOS pro vestavěnou 3palcovou mechaniku. Oba vadné obvody jsem z desky vyletoval, jejich pozice osadil paticemi a původní ROM nahradil naprogramovanými EPROM s odpovídajícím obsahem. Po opravě počítač znovu naběhl a diagnostika potvrdila funkční základní 64KB RAM i detekci řadiče disketové mechaniky. Oprava včetně vyjmutých původních ROM, základní desky a diagnostického testu je zachycena ve fotodokumentaci.

I acquired this Amstrad CPC 664 in non working condition. The fault was traced to two failed mask ROMs on the motherboard. Amstrad 40022 is the 32 KB system ROM containing the machine firmware and Locomotive BASIC 1.1, while Amstrad 40015 is the separate 16 KB disk ROM containing AMSDOS for the built in 3 inch drive. I desoldered both faulty devices, fitted sockets in their positions and replaced the original ROMs with programmed EPROMs containing the corresponding ROM images. After the repair the computer booted again, and diagnostics confirmed the base 64 KB RAM and detection of the floppy disk controller.
