Apricot Portable, Anglie, 1984. Přenosný počítač firmy ACT byl uveden v listopadu 1984 a patřil k nejodvážnějším britským konstrukcím své doby. Používá Intel 8086 na přibližně 5 MHz, standardně 256 KB RAM a vestavěnou 720KB 3,5palcovou mechaniku Sony. Integrovaný monochromatický LCD zobrazuje 80 × 25 znaků a grafiku 640 × 200 bodů.
English / Anglicky:
Apricot Portable, England, 1984. ACT introduced this portable computer in November 1984 and it was one of the more ambitious British designs of its era. It uses an Intel 8086 at about 5 MHz, normally with 256 KB RAM and a built in 720 KB Sony 3.5 inch floppy drive. Its monochrome LCD displays 80 × 25 text and 640 × 200 graphics. A distinctive feature is the cordless infrared keyboard, with an optional infrared mouse or trackball. The machine also shipped with software speech recognition using an integrated microphone, supporting a vocabulary of thousands of words with 64 active at one time. Although it runs MS-DOS, it is not fully IBM PC compatible at hardware level. CP/M-86 and Concurrent CP/M were also supported.

Náš exemplář / Our machine
Tento Apricot Portable jsem získal s původním plastovým přepravním kufrem i originální papírovou krabicí, kompletními manuály a původními bootovacími a programovými disketami. Dochované master diskety obsahují mimo jiné MS-DOS 2.11, BIOS VR1.6, GEM Desktop & Utilities, GEM Applications a ASYNC/GWBASIC. Počítač má originální bezdrátovou infračervenou klávesnici a vestavěný mikrofon, přes který lze používat dobový systém rozpoznávání řeči a počítač ovládat hlasovými příkazy.
I acquired this Apricot Portable with its original plastic carrying case and original cardboard box, together with the complete manuals and original boot and software disks. The surviving master disks include MS-DOS 2.11, BIOS VR1.6, GEM Desktop & Utilities, GEM Applications and ASYNC/GWBASIC. The computer has its original wireless infrared keyboard and a built in microphone used by the period speech recognition system, allowing the machine to be controlled with spoken commands. The original LCD display was faulty. I found a replacement Hitachi LM225X LCD module measuring 240 × 105 mm on eBay and replaced the defective panel. After the repair the computer is fully operational again. I later also obtained an original Apricot mouse, but only after the current photo documentation had been made, so it is not yet shown in the photographs.
