Atari 65XE, USA, 1985. Levnější model nové řady XE navazuje technicky na Atari 800XL, ale dostal světle šedou skříň ve stylu řady ST. Používá procesor SALLY, 64 KB RAM a 24 KB ROM s operačním systémem XL a Atari BASICem. ANTIC, GTIA a POKEY zůstávají stejné, takže software je ve vysoké míře kompatibilní s předchozími 8bitovými Atari. Má dva ovladačové porty, SIO, cartridge slot a u mnoha pozdějších kusů také Enhanced Cartridge Interface, který funkčně nahrazuje starší PBI, ale používá jiný konektor. Model byl představen v lednu 1985 s plánovanou cenou 99 dolarů jako základ nové osmibitové nabídky Atari.

Atari 65XE, USA, 1985. The lower cost model of the new XE range is technically derived from the Atari 800XL but uses the light grey styling shared with the ST family. It uses the SALLY processor, 64 KB RAM and 24 KB ROM containing the XL operating system and Atari BASIC. ANTIC, GTIA and POKEY remain, providing a high degree of software compatibility with earlier Atari 8 bit machines. The 65XE includes two controller ports, SIO and a cartridge slot, while many later units also have the Enhanced Cartridge Interface, functionally similar to the earlier PBI but using a different connector. It was introduced in January 1985 with an announced US$99 price as the entry model of Atari's new 8 bit range.

Atari 65XE mám ve své sbírce už od roku 1991. Je to tedy jeden z počítačů, které mě provázejí opravdu dlouho. Dodnes je plně funkční a nemá žádné problémy. U tohoto exempláře není třeba vyprávět dramatický příběh o opravách. Jeho příběhem je především dlouholeté místo v mé sbírce a skutečnost, že si ho i po více než třech desetiletích mohu bez potíží zapnout.

My Atari 65XE has been part of my collection since 1991, making it one of the computers I have owned for a very long time. It remains fully operational and works without any problems. This particular machine does not need a dramatic restoration story. Its history is simply its long-standing place in my collection and the fact that I can still switch it on without trouble after more than three decades.
