Srovnání Compaq Portable 286, Portable II a Portable 386, USA, 1985/1986/1987. Tři po sobě jdoucí generace ukazují rychlý vývoj profesionálních kufříkových PC během pouhých dvou let. Portable 286 používá Intel 80286 na 6 nebo 8 MHz, 256 až 640 KB RAM, 1,2MB 5,25palcovou mechaniku a ve vyšší konfiguraci 20MB pevný disk. Portable II z roku 1986 zůstává u 80286 na 6/8 MHz, ale používá menší a lehčí skříň, 360KB mechaniku a nabízí konfigurace s 10 nebo 20MB diskem. Portable 386 z roku 1987 přechází na plný 32bitový Intel 80386DX na 20 MHz, 1 až 2 MB RAM v běžných konfiguracích s možností rozšíření až na 10 MB, 1,2MB mechaniku a 40 nebo 100MB pevný disk. Nejviditelnější změnou je 10palcový jantarový plynový plazmový displej 640 × 400 u Portable 386. Všechny tři stroje zůstávají síťově napájenými transportovatelnými počítači, nikoli bateriovými notebooky.

Comparison: Compaq Portable 286, Portable II and Portable 386, USA, 1985/1986/1987. These three successive generations show how quickly professional luggable PCs evolved in only two years. The Portable 286 uses an Intel 80286 at 6 or 8 MHz, 256 to 640 KB RAM, a 1.2 MB 5.25 inch floppy drive and a 20 MB hard disk in the higher configuration. The 1986 Portable II remains with the 80286 at 6/8 MHz but uses a smaller and lighter case, a 360 KB floppy and configurations with 10 or 20 MB hard disks. The 1987 Portable 386 moves to a full 32 bit Intel 80386DX at 20 MHz, typically 1 or 2 MB RAM with expansion up to 10 MB, a 1.2 MB floppy and 40 or 100 MB hard disks. The most visible change is the Portable 386's 10 inch amber gas plasma display at 640 × 400. All three remain mains powered transportable computers rather than battery notebooks.
