GN InterWatch 95000, Canada, 1994. The InterWatch 95000 is not an ordinary portable computer but a professional modular network protocol analyser from GN Navtel. It was designed for ATM, Ethernet, Token Ring, LAN and WAN testing. The system is built around a VME bus and a Unix based operating system. Individual I/O modules use their own RISC processors, while a dedicated Intel 486 handles the X Window/Motif graphical interface. Initial configurations provided multiport Ethernet, Token Ring and DS3 level ATM analysis, with OC-3c 155 Mb/s SONET and SDH support planned next. The unit can capture, generate and analyse traffic in real time. Contemporary product listings describe an active matrix colour VGA display at 640 × 480, disk storage, printer interface and RS-232C. Its modular construction allows interface cards to be changed for different networks.
