Mechanika BASF představuje možnost práce s dalším fyzickým formátem disket, její formátování závisí na použitém řadiči a softwaru.

Schneider CPC 664 + Vortex SP-512 + BASF 6139, West Germany, from 1985. The collection configuration is based on a CPC 664 with a Z80A processor, 64 KB RAM and a built in three inch floppy drive. The other named components are a 512 KB Vortex SP-512 memory expansion and an external BASF 6139 drive. Vortex's SP512 features a BOS banked operating system ROM and can provide extra working memory or a RAM disk. A critical distinction is necessary: the standard internal SP512 board was designed for the CPC 464 and its documented mechanical layout cannot be installed directly in a CPC 664 without adaptation. The exact mounting of the expansion in this configuration therefore needs to be verified from board photographs. The BASF drive adds another physical disk format, while actual disk capacity and formatting depend on the controller and software used.
