Sinclair ZX81, Skotsko, 1981. Nástupce ZX80 používá Z80A kolem 3,25 MHz, 1 KB RAM rozšiřitelnou externím modulem a 8 KB ROM s rozšířeným Sinclair BASICem. Nový obvod ULA slučuje velkou část logiky předchůdce a snižuje počet součástek. V režimu SLOW zůstává obraz průběžně viditelný, ale procesor má méně času na program, zatímco FAST vypíná obraz a využije plný výkon CPU. Výstup je černobílý, text má 32 × 24 znaků a bloková grafika 64 × 48. Programy se ukládají na externí kazetový magnetofon.

Sinclair ZX81, Scotland, 1981. The ZX80 successor uses a Z80A at about 3.25 MHz, 1 KB RAM expandable through an external module and 8 KB ROM containing an extended Sinclair BASIC. A new ULA combines much of the earlier machine’s logic and reduces the component count. In SLOW mode the display remains continuously visible but leaves less CPU time for the program, while FAST mode blanks the picture and gives the processor full speed. Output is monochrome with 32 × 24 text and 64 × 48 block graphics. Programs are stored on an external cassette recorder.
